Welcome Coronado Council

Strengthening the Future of Scouting Across Kansas

Two Scouting communities unite to expand opportunities for youth, strengthen volunteer support, and build a lasting future for Scouting in Kansas.

WICHITA, KANSAS | October 28, 2026 – Quivira Council, Scouting America, is proud to announce the merger of Coronado Council into Quivira Council, bringing together two dedicated Scouting communities with a shared commitment to youth, leadership, adventure, and service. With this transition, Quivira Council will now serve 81 counties across Kansas, supporting more than 4,500 Scouts and over 2,500 registered Scout leaders.
This historic decision follows two years of thoughtful planning, extensive discussions, and careful collaboration between both councils. Dedicated merger committees were established to evaluate opportunities, address organizational considerations, and determine the best path forward. Following this comprehensive process, both councils approved the merger with one shared priority at the forefront: ensuring a strong, sustainable future for Scouting in Kansas.

Both councils have a proud history of developing young leaders, building character, and creating life-changing experiences. By uniting their strengths, Quivira Council looks forward to honoring those traditions while expanding opportunities, strengthening resources, and supporting the volunteers who make Scouting possible. The traditions, dedication, and community spirit that have defined Coronado Council will remain an important part of the Scouting experience moving forward.

“By uniting our strengths, the Quivira Council’s aim is to enhance program delivery, support local Scout units, strengthen volunteer resources, and ensure that the values of Scouting remain accessible to future generations. These are exciting times for Scouting in Kansas!” said Benjamin W. Crouch, Chairman of the Board for Quivira Council.

To our Coronado volunteers and families: Welcome to Quivira Council!
We recognize the countless hours, years of service, and personal commitment that have made Scouting successful in your communities. Your contributions matter, your traditions matter, and your voices will continue to be an important part of our shared future. We are grateful for the opportunity to serve alongside you and look forward to all we will accomplish together.

For existing Quivira Council volunteers and families, this merger represents an opportunity to strengthen our Scouting community, share resources and experiences, and extend the reach of our mission to even more young people. While our council’s geographic footprint is growing, our commitment to the Scouts, families, and local units we serve remains as strong as ever.

As we move forward together, our mission remains unchanged: to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law.

Quivira Council leadership remains committed to open communication, supporting volunteers, and ensuring Scouting continues to thrive in communities across Kansas.

One council. One Scouting family. One shared future.

We are excited to begin this next chapter together and look forward to seeing Scouting grow, friendships flourish, and new generations of young people discover the adventures and opportunities that await them.
